How many pictures can 2GB hold? If you landed here, I am pretty sure you are trying to get some real answers.
If you check out the tables below, you will see that I have done up a guide that show give you a good idea as to how much photos can be stored on 2 gigabyte.
How Many Pics Can Fit on 2GB?
Now you might be wondering where we are getting these numbers from. To let you know, we are not pulling it out of thin air. All the numbers we use are based on real world data. You should know that 2GB of memory can hold a lot more or less photos, it really depends on a variety factors. Things like the size of the photo and the megapixel of the camera can all influence the overall data size.
Estimates used:
1 MP = 1,000,000 pixels
1MB = 1,000,000 bytes, 1GB = 1,000MB
JPEG 100% Quality = Visually lossless JPEG compression with 1:10 ratio of RAW image
Photos – Compressed (JPEG 100% quality) Images per card. (info by Sandisk)
Megapixels | File size (MB) | 1GB |
4MP | 1.2 | 1430 |
5MP | 1.5 | 1144 |
6MP | 1.8 | 953 |
7MP | 2.1 | 817 |
8MP | 2.4 | 715 |
10MP | 3.0 | 572 |
12MP | 3.6 | 476 |
14MP | 4.2 | 408 |
16MP | 4.8 | 357 |
22MP | 6.6 | 260 |
If you want to know about RAW photos, then you should be aware that they take up more space than JPG’s. Remember, RAW files are uncompressed, so 2GB definitely will not hold as much RAW photos compared to JPG’s.
Photos – Uncompressed RAW (24 bits per pixel) Images per card
Megapixels | File size (MB) | 2GB |
4MP | 12.0 | 143 |
5MP | 15.0 | 114 |
6MP | 18.0 | 95 |
7MP | 21.0 | 81 |
8MP | 24.0 | 71 |
10MP | 30.0 | 57 |
12MP | 36.0 | 47 |
14MP | 42.0 | 40 |
16MP | 48.0 | 35 |
22MP | 66.0 | 26 |
I hope the tables above were able to give you a better understanding of the storage capacity of 2GB. In this day and age, 2GB is not a lot of space, but the information should give you a starting guideline as it relates to other memory card & storage sizes.
If you want to look at other storage sizes, I have guides on 1, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 GB, 1TB & 2 TB.
